Drone roof surveys and condition reports
Drone roof surveys and condition reports for commercial and industrial buildings. When a roof leaks, fails an inspection, or needs a costed plan before you buy, Nova surveys it from the roof and by drone, right across the UK.
One survey. One clear report. Every fault we find is rated by severity, located precisely, and given a costed solution. You see exactly what a Nova report delivers before you commission one.
Drone roof surveys, in two minutes
Why survey before you quote
A roof problem is rarely what it looks like from the yard. Cut edge corrosion hides at sheet ends and laps. Failed flashings and blocked outlets show themselves only from above. Ponding and perished mastic sit where nobody standing on the ground can see them. A quote given without a survey is a guess, and a guess is how a small repair turns into an unplanned replacement. Nova surveys first, every time, so the price reflects the roof that is actually there.
What a drone survey shows, and what it does not
A drone survey photographs the whole roof in high resolution: every slope, valley, ridge, penetration, flashing, outlet and rooflight, from angles no ladder reaches safely. It captures a permanent visual record you can hold against next year’s condition. It is honest about its limits too. A drone reads the outside of the roof. It does not lift sheets, test the deck from within, or open up a build up to see what sits beneath. Where an intrusive check is needed, the survey shows exactly where, so opening up is targeted and minimal rather than exploratory. That is cheaper and less disruptive than opening a roof blind.
Safer than putting people on the roof
The Work at Height Regulations require that work at height is avoided where there is a reasonable alternative. For the inspection stage, the drone is that alternative. Nobody climbs, and nobody stands on a fragile or storm damaged roof simply to find out what is wrong. Falls from height and falls through fragile roofs remain among the most serious causes of injury in this industry, and the inspection is the part of the job that no longer needs to carry that risk.
Faster and less disruptive than scaffold
A traditional inspection can mean scaffold or a tower, days of setup, permits, and disruption to a working site. Scaffold hire alone on a commercial building runs into thousands of pounds before anyone has looked at the roof. A drone survey needs no scaffold and no site shutdown. The flight is measured in minutes, the site keeps working, and the report follows in days. When the survey leads to works, that saved time and access cost stays in your budget for the roof itself.
The report you receive
Every Nova survey ends in a written condition report, not a folder of photographs. It rates each finding by severity, from critical faults that need attention this quarter down to items to monitor. It sets out the location, the observation, and the recommended action for each, with evidence. And it prices the work as costed options, where doing less is set beside doing more, so you choose the route that fits the building and the budget. Below is a sample report, so you can see exactly what a Nova survey delivers before you commission one.

When a commercial roof survey earns its place
Asset managers, estates teams, building owners and incoming occupiers commission a condition survey at several points: when a lease or a budget cycle needs a credible forecast of roof spend, when a leak has appeared and the cause is not obvious, after storm damage, before committing to solar, or simply when a roof’s age means guesswork is no longer good enough. If you are buying or leasing a commercial building, a roof survey before you commit is one of the cheapest ways to avoid an expensive surprise, and we cover pre acquisition and lease surveys in detail separately.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a commercial roof survey cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the roof, the site’s location and access, and whether thermal imaging is needed. Every Nova survey is quoted for the specific building after a quick desk assessment, so you know the figure before we fly. The saving against scaffold based inspection is usually substantial.
What does a drone survey show on a commercial roof?
The full external condition: cut edge corrosion, failed laps and fixings, displaced or perished flashings, blocked or undersized outlets, ponding, cracked or crazed rooflights, and coating wear, all in high resolution and located precisely for the report.
Is a drone survey as good as someone going up on the roof?
For inspection, it is usually better, because it covers the whole roof safely and at high resolution, and it avoids putting anyone on a fragile covering. Where a physical check is genuinely needed, the survey pinpoints exactly where, so it is targeted rather than exploratory.
How quickly can you survey a commercial or industrial roof?
The flight itself is typically under an hour, and the written report follows within days. There is no scaffold to erect and no shutdown, so a survey can usually be arranged quickly and around your operation.
Do you survey roofs you might then repair?
Yes. Nova is survey led: we survey first, report honestly, and price the work as costed options, including where doing less is the right answer. The survey stands on its own, and there is no obligation to proceed.
Can you survey a commercial roof before we buy or lease the building?
Yes, and it is one of the most valuable times to do it. A roof is a major building element that paperwork often misrepresents, and a survey before you commit tells you the real condition and the real cost. We cover pre acquisition and lease surveys in detail separately.
Nova also covers: Rugby · Daventry · Doncaster · Magna Park and Lutterworth · Exeter · Park Royal · Bristol and Avonmouth · Plymouth · Newton Abbot · Torbay · Yeovil · Taunton · Saltash · Ivybridge · Cullompton · Liskeard · Cold Storage · Roof dilapidations
