Solar-readiness roof surveys

Commercial solar is usually planned around a working life of twenty-five years or more, so the roof underneath has to last at least as long. A solar-readiness survey tells you how long the roof has left and what, if anything, should be done before the panels go on.

What the survey looks at

  • Condition and remaining life of the roof covering, compared with the expected life of the installation.
  • Sheet type and fixings. Panels are not usually fixed directly to asbestos cement sheets, and where the roof is asbestos cement we cost overcladding first.
  • Rooflights, access routes, drainage and edge protection needed for installation and maintenance.
  • Whether the additional load needs confirming. Where it does, we say so and recommend a structural engineer's assessment; we do not certify structural capacity ourselves.

The report

A written report you can hand to any solar installer, with the roof works needed before installation and their costs. We do not install solar ourselves. If the roof needs work first, we can specify, manage or carry it out.
