What is the Plygene Gutterline system?
Plygene Gutterline is a proprietary gutter lining system designed specifically for the commercial and industrial gutter environment. Rather than removing and replacing failed gutters, the system installs a new continuous liner inside the existing gutter, creating a seamless waterproof channel that moves independently of the substrate and is not susceptible to the thermal movement that causes conventional coatings and repairs to fail.
The system is designed for a wide range of commercial gutter configurations. We assess the specific gutter profile at survey stage and confirm suitability before any works are agreed.
The liner
A continuous flexible liner installed inside the existing gutter, forming a seamless waterproof channel that conforms to the gutter profile.
Fixings
The liner is trapped under the roof sheets or mechanically fixed behind flashings, securing it without penetrating the waterproof layer.
Drainage components
Bespoke outlet and drainage components maintain the correct fall and ensure the liner drains correctly at every outlet point.
Network components
Bespoke moulded T-junctions, corners, weirs, sumps and stop ends. Every junction in the gutter network is addressed with a purpose-made component.
Reline, don't replace
Replacing commercial gutters typically requires removing roof sheets, installing new gutterwork and reinstating the roof edge. On an occupied industrial building that is a significant disruption and a significant cost. Plygene Gutterline removes the need for either.

How installation works
All Plygene Gutterline installations are carried out to HD Sharman's 12 Golden Rules of installation and are inspected by HD Sharman's technical team before the guarantee is released.
Survey and specification
The full gutter network is surveyed to establish its condition, configuration and drainage points. A specification is produced covering the liner, fixings, drainage and network components required.
Preparation
The existing gutter is cleaned, any protruding fixings are addressed, and protection strips are fitted to provide a smooth base for the liner installation.
Liner installation
The continuous liner is laid into the gutter and secured at stop ends and edges. Stop end envelope folds are formed and the liner trapped under roof sheets or fixed behind flashings as appropriate.
Network components
Bespoke T-junctions, corners, weirs, sumps and outlet components are installed at every junction point in the gutter network. Each component is mechanically fixed and welded to the liner.
Testing and inspection
The completed installation is water tested and inspected by HD Sharman's technical team against the 12 Golden Rules. Sign-off triggers release of the 25-year guarantee.
Guarantee issued
HD Sharman issues the 25-year system guarantee directly on certified completion. The guarantee covers the system for its full design life.

What types of gutters can be lined with the Plygene system?
The Plygene Gutterline system suits a wide range of commercial gutter profiles including box gutters, valley gutters, parapet gutters and ogee profiles. Suitability depends on the specific configuration; we assess the gutter at survey stage and confirm whether the system is appropriate before any works are agreed.
Do the existing gutters need to be removed?
No. The Plygene Gutterline system is installed inside the existing gutter, which remains in place. Removal of the existing gutter is not required, which means no disturbance to roof sheets, no fascia work and significantly less time on site.
Can the work be done on an occupied building?
Yes. Because the system is installed entirely within the gutter without disturbing the roof covering or the structure, it can be carried out on occupied buildings with no disruption to operations below in most cases. We agree the programme with you before work starts.
How long does Plygene Gutterline installation take?
It depends on the total length of gutter and the complexity of the network. A straightforward run of gutter on a standard industrial unit is typically completed in one to three days. More complex networks with multiple junctions, sumps and changes of direction take longer. We set out the programme at the quotation stage.
What guarantee is provided?
The completed installation is backed by HD Sharman's 25-year system guarantee, issued directly by the manufacturer following inspection and certification of the completed works by HD Sharman's technical team. This is a BBA-assessed system installed by trained applicators.
Why not just patch the leaking gutters?
Patch repairs to corroded or leaking commercial gutters typically fail within one to three years because they address the symptom rather than the cause. Gutter corrosion and joint failure are progressive; patch repairs do not arrest the deterioration of the surrounding metal. The Plygene system creates a new continuous waterproof channel inside the existing gutter and is designed to perform for 25 years.
Is Plygene Gutterline suitable for asbestos cement roofs?
Yes. The Plygene Gutterline system is regularly installed on buildings with asbestos cement roof profiles. The liner installation does not disturb the roof sheets and is compatible with metal and asbestos roof build-ups where the gutter profile is suitable. We confirm this at survey stage.
